Yeah - I took in 8 high vol players on 2 year contracts just to see if they take the hit instead of my draft picks - not sure what way the dice will go - but hey hoo.

Yea , I was assuming the VOL dice roll would only count for Rookies, not for players with 2 or more years. I'm kinda worried about training camp.

I think it rolls for all(?) not just rookies.

Im wondering also, after all these years playing this game, Im not sure. My best guess is that the rookies will be affected the most, which puts me in real jeopardy as Ive got a lot of rooks. We will find out in about an hour from this post!! lots of fun, if you boom, lol.

yep, the rooks were the ones who boomed or busted.

I gave some big contracts to fast high volatility UDFA rookie LBs who all busted pretty badly - an expensive mistake. Don't know if it's because the allocation draft coaches can be low rated and that would stunt development of any rookies.

My stable of WRs looks solid, and I was pleasantly surprised that my offensive line might turn out a little better than I expected. We'll see what happens.

We did some looking at previous initial drafts for new leagues, main one was the Major League, it revealed a lot about the first few rounds, but, the one thing I didnt catch was the difference between rooks and 2-5 year vet players. Overall, am not unhappy with the boom/bust of my players, about even, and avoided a catastrophe. The worst is when you have one or more of your first 3 rounds go -10 or more in camp, and that is primarily done by rookies.

My 2.9 pick, CB Williams, rook, went -8 in camp. :( The rest of the first 5 were OK, then I got a boomer with the 8.9 pick, RB Dale Sayers, +7, you will be seeing that name for a long time on the bone chewers. That was followed by another -8 bust, 9th rounder WR Vincent. Then my QB Grey, 10th rounder, 2 yr vet went -6, another bummer. Fortunately, that was the only downside to the draft for me, one boom and and three busts in first 10 picks.

Two things about coaches in both all the previous game versions and the current one, their rating dont mean anything, I wish they did, but they dont, and that is why you should not spend much time if any trying to get higher rated coaches and poaching other teams coaches. The HC sets your playbook, thats it. If anyone has a different experience with coaches, please do tell and show.

The only thing that will hamper player development is if you have a coach missing, especially in training camp. Other than that, thats all there is to it.

Had an extremely successful Late FA1, signing 14 out of 15 offers! That was a first. Looking at the transactions for LFA1 and 2, and TC, am glad I already had drafted my kickers when I did. The drop off from the top 20% was pretty steep.
